project description

Filling Pieces is an upcoming Amsterdam-based sneaker brand that fills the gap between streetwear and high-end fashion with unique, contemporary handmade sneakers.
The brand’s main inspiration sources are architecture, nature and urban culture.
This inspires FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio to create “landscapes” rather than displays to exhibit the sneakers. Both urban- and nature inspired landscapes, that support the visual appearance of the vast collection of 400 sneakers.

Presenting the FILLING PIECES inner circle collection, FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES designed a minimalistic, stylized landscape of tropical black marble rock circles. “Breathing” light, slowly moves from one circle to another creating a mystic experience.

Upon entering the space, the circles appear to be of equal size but when moving further into the space you’ll discover that it’s an optical illusion, as the circles actually significantly differ in size.

The raw natural material of the black marble, unnaturally ordered in perfect circles almost appear to be floating. The contrast of these circles to the highly refined sneakers, add up to a surprising alienating experience in this space.

the added value of FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio

Filling Pieces is a remarkable brand founded in 2009 by the 21-year-old architect Guillaume Philibert. This exhibition was their first big show at the Paris fashion week. Up until then, the brand didn’t have experience with exhibiting and presenting their shoes on a large scale.

FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio took the challenge to start telling the brand’s story about its identity and values through the design of the exhibition. The objective was to impress the visitors and to communicate the brand’s identity in an abstract way.
FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio made a difference by creating a unique exhibition, which attracted and impressed many high-profile people from the fashion industry. An exhibition that not only looks good, but also narrates the roots and identity of a young starting brand.
